Gift Guide: Purrfect Tops For Any Cat Lover

For those that don’t know, I’m a cat lover. I’m not ashamed to embrace the “crazy cat lady” title. With that being said, I decided to create a gift guide for the purrfect tops for the cat lover in your life (or if you’re like me, a gift guide to TREAT YO’ SELF). I’ve scoured my favorite brands to bring you top-shelf cat lady approved attire. (You’re welcome).

Wildfox Couture’s Seeing Cats Dali Sweater
This bright read boxy crop top sweater is a must-have for the season. Pair it with your favorite high-waisted jeans or even a faux leather mini (BLANKNYC skirt from Nordstrom) for a night out with friends.

Lauren Moshi’s Felix the Cat Ragland
This super-soft boyfriend ragland top is here to give you all the vintage feels! Pair it with distressed denim or jogger pants for a casual look (Willow & Clay’s Faux Leather Jogger Pants).

Meowington’s Cool Cat Tank Top
This ultra-cool and on sale tank can be easily carried into the fall/ winter season. Rock it with a pair of black skinny jeans (Madewell’s High Waist Skinny Jeans) and top it off with a Moto jacket (BLANKNYC’s faux leather Moto jacket).

Shein’s Cartoon Cat Print Sweatshirt
Are you kitten me with this sweatshirt from Shein?! This is the purrfect weekend sweatshirt for brunch. Personally I’d pair it with some colored denim like JJen7’s Release Hem Skinny Jeans in charm pink. If the top runs long on you, knot it on the side.

J.Crew Factory’s Sleepy Cat Teddie Sweater
This slim fit sweater is a must-have for any cat lover. Take the look up a notch with a pair of black skinny jeans (Topshop’s Leigh jeans) and a fitted black blazer (Vince Camuto’s Drape Front Blazer)

Anthropologie’s Wild Cat Top
Take a walk on the wild side with this cat print top from Anthropologie. The ruffle detailing gives it some spice and “cat-titude.” What I love about this shirt is that you can take it from desk to dinner so easily by either adding a fierce leather jacket (Pistola Tracy Cropped Faux Leather Jacket).

(f)unemployment

And so my (f)unemployment continues!

I’ve been dying to try my hand at embroidery (and no, I’m not 87), but I’ve been intrigued by it since it’s all the rage in fashion this year. My friend and I had a little Sunday Funday action with Craft Habit Raleigh at The Edge of Urge to benefit The Beehive Collective.  Embroidery and bottomless mimosas?! Sign me up!

Upon walking into The Edge of Urge I was enamored with the entire store.  Not only do they carry Capri Blue candles, but they sell unique jewelry, amazingly creative cards and so much more.  Looking back, I wish I had taken photos of the store… but I was too transfixed on the mimosas and wanting to learn how to embroider.  In the two-hour time frame I learned the basics of embroidery and I was hooked.

As the class wrapped up we weren’t quite ready to head home so we trotted next door to Wine Authorities.  HELLO, new favorite place!  I love the idea of having a Wine Authorities card where you can put money on it and serve yourself at the wine tap.  Can someone please install a wine tap at my house?  And because I’m obsessed with cheese plates/ cheese boards we totally ordered one. #cheeseaddict

In case you were wondering, I finished my work of art! I stayed up late Wednesday night so I could finish it and I’m pretty sure I found my new hobby.  Perhaps I’ll open an Etsy shop if I don’t find a new job.

My Bucket List of Bands

I Got Hot Sauce in My Bag

Let’s get in formation.

I was BEYOND stoked to see Queen Bey at Carter Finely on May 3rd… I just wish I had dressed more appropriately for the weather.  Note to self: don’t wear a long dress + suede boots even if there’s a chance for rain.

En route to Carter Finley the bottom fell out- rain, thunder, lightning + hail. Fun stuff, y’all.  The best part was we didn’t have to pay for parking due to the storm- woot, woot!! After tailgating in the parking lot for awhile we decided to make our way in so we could see DJ Khaled.  We got there in time to see the tail end of his performance.  It never fails: I will forever laugh every time I hear him say, “DJ KHALED!”

Beyonce opened to Formation, which was lit and the rest of the show followed suit.  When she opened to Formation she wore a victorian inspired look by DSquared2.  Other notable designers she rocked during her performances included Balmain, Roberto CavalliAtsuko KudoGucci.  To see her complete looks check out Fashionista. During the middle of the concert the bottom fell out again and we had to evacuate Carter-Finley to either the PNC Arena or the NC State Indoor Practice Field.  We chose the indoor football field, because we wanted to see what it looked like. It was nice + still smelled brand new, or maybe that was the fake turf. It wasn’t until close to 11PM that we were allowed back into the stadium.  Like I mentioned before, I wore the wrong outfit- my long Pink Stitch dress + Dolce Vita Grayden boots which were covered in mud.

By the time the show started back up again about 25% of the crowd had left.  We were bound + determined to stay for the entire show even though I knew my tail would be dragging next day at work.

Beyonce’s show was absolutely PHENOMENAL! My favorite performances of hers was Formation, Run the World,  Ring the Alarm + Freedom.  She performed Freedom in a pool of water + it was sick!  A bittersweet moment is when the screen went purple and they played Purple Rain by Prince. It gave me chills.

Opening a New Chapter

As of recently, I’ve been blogging about my adventures in Dallas and all the concerts I’ve been going to.  What I haven’t mentioned, but meaning to do is announce my most recent career change! *happy dance*  Who knew I would go from drugstore marketing to fashion marketing?!  Somebody needs to pinch me because I still can’t believe I’m working in fashion, not to mention one of my favorite stores (other than Anthropologie of course)! Ok, ok… I’ll tell you where I’m working.  I got a job working at bevello (it’s a women’s boutique based here in Raleigh).  It’s pretty amazing.  bevello carries various designers most folks are familiar with like French Connection, Hudson Jeans, Paige DenimToms, Free People (my fav) as well as smaller brands you might not recognize.  Like I said, it’s pretty amazing.

Once I get more “settled” (I’m about to start my third week there), I’m sure I’ll post more about my adventures in the fashion world and all the exciting opportunities I encounter, so stay tuned!

My Sunday Splurge

Sunday brunch in Carrboro?  Sounds like an adventure to me! I don’t venture out to Carrboro often.  Let me rephrase that, I never go to Carrboro.  When I met up with my cousin for brunch yesterday I figured I better leave extra early because knowing me I’ll get lost.  I didn’t get lost, but I didn’t listen to my GPS when it told me to get on I-40… I probably heard my GPS say, “recalculating” 3 times (yes, I failed to not listen to it several times yesterday).  I blame it on my lack of caffeine.

Eventually I made it to Acme (on time I might add) and instantly loved the atmosphere. They had a wide variety of bloody Mary’s to choose from, but I opted for a morning mimosa.  The brunch menu items ranged from omelets to waffles to burgers.  I highly suggest checking out Acme in Carrboro for brunch… be sure to make reservations beforehand so you don’t have to wait around!

Isabella top by Helen Bullock at Anthropologie

On my way back to Raleigh I decided to stop at Anthropologie to use the store credit I collected. I’m going to guess that I was in the store for about an hour just admiring their home items before I decided I better try something on.  I ended up buying this AH-MAH-ZING silk multi-patterned shirt by Helen Bullock.  I tend to gravitate to unique patterns and lucky me I picked up the last small!

All I have to say is thank goodness for store credit!!
