Who wouldn’t want to get fresh flowers delivered?! Y’all should enter!
Somebody Told Me
The Killers are coming to Raleigh on August 12th (happy early birthday to me)! Y’all don’t know how excited I am about this concert. I’ll probably say this about all the concerts I’m going to this year, but I’ve been waiting for them to come to Raleigh since FOREVER! I pretty much wanted to do the “Carlton dance” once I secured my tickets, but thought it would be best if I didn’t break out in dance in the marketing department. I’ll save that dance for a rainy day or when our department needs a laugh.
Mr. Brandon Flowers, I’ll be seeing you in August!

A Mother’s Day Quilt
I certainly know how to make my mom cry! This Mother’s Day I gave my mom the quilt I had Megan from A Crafty Handful finish from some of my grandmother’s quilt squares. Even when I met Megan at Starbucks to pick up the finished quilt I got chills and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up a bit. She did an AMAZING job on the quilt and surpassed my expectations.
When I gave the quilt to her, this is what she focused on:
I’m almost hesitant to show the video of her opening her Mother’s Day gift because I honestly hate the way I sound on camera. Yes, I know I have a crazy southern accent and I still haven’t embraced it at the age of 31. I’ll confess I was hoping my voice wouldn’t be heard in the video, but it was. I apologize. Since it was such a special/ thoughtful gift I’ve decided to show y’all the video (the condensed version).
Here are some more pictures I took of the big day:

I Heart Rachael

On Saturday I took a trip to Greensboro to participate in the NF Walk to benefit the Children’s Tumor Foundation and to honor one of my closest friends, Rachael. The ‘I Heart Rachael’ team had almost 40 participants, which was the largest group at the NF Walk. With our team goal of raising $500 we surpassed that with raising over $1,000! Rachael has an amazing support system and she amazes me every single day with her courage and outlook on life. She truly is an inspiration!

Band of Horses
Last night was my first concert of 2013 and boy was it amazing!
If you have never been to a Band of Horses show, you must drop what you’re doing immediately (when I say immediately I mean after you read my post) and then find tickets to one of their shows. You’ll thank me. Seriously, you will. This will mark the second time I’ve seen them perform (they’re officially tied with New Kids on the Block). Don’t tell them that, I doubt they would want to be associated with an 80’s boy band. I hope this blog post doesn’t ruin my street cred.
Back to last night’s show.
I’m pretty sure I went a little nuts when they played my FAVORITE song of theirs, The Funeral. When I saw them last year with My Morning Jacket, I’m pretty sure they closed the show with The Funeral (which was the perfect song to close the show with) so you can imagine my excitement when they included it in their set list. This leaves me to rate my top 5 concerts of all time (this could possibly change since I’ve got 6-7 more shows this year)
- Mumford + Sons
- The Avett Brothers
- Band of Horses
- Kings of Leon
- New Kids on the Block (yeah I know I’m being judged, but those guys can put on a good show AND they’ve still got it)
Like I said earlier in my post, go see Band of Horses. If you like them you can thank me, if you don’t then you need to listen to them again because you’re obviously missing out on something great.
Enjoy some of the pictures I took from last night’s show!

Cuatro de Drink-o
I celebrated Cinco de Mayo on the 4th of May rather than the 5th (is it tacky that we celebrated Cinco de Mayo on the 4th?)… oh well it’s too late now! Dos Taquitos Xoco had a block party in downtown Raleigh that we couldn’t resist going to. Unfortunately the weather was not favorable for us. HELLO!! It’s May and I should be able to wear my maxi dress and not freeze my tail off like I did.
I was expecting a large crowd at the block party, but looking back on it now I’ve come up with my own conclusion. People were watching the Kentucky Derby + not celebrating Cinco de Mayo on the 4th. Maybe next year I should actually celebrate events on the actual date, not the day before. I’m going to use this blog post as a reminder.
Regardless of the crowd I had an incredible time with my friends. We wore mustaches… I opted for a temporary tattoo mustache I ordered from Fab (it was a hit). Dos Taquitos Xoco had set up cornhole, had an outside bar, live music, face painting for kids, etc. Next year I plan to celebrate Cinco de Mayo on the actual day, not the day before.

Dallas… Here I Come!
I just booked my flight to go see one of my friends from college who recently moved to Dallas. Added bonus: we’re going to see The Avett Brothers at the Gexa Energy Pavilion! Second Added Bonus: Grace Potter +the Nocturnals, Matt + Kim, Milo Greene, Dawes, and Hayes Carll will also be performing at the show as well!
Honestly I can’t wait to explore all of Dallas… well I only have 3 days to cram it all in, but I’ll take it!
I Tumble For Ya
When I was in Jacksonville, FL I bought these amazing vintage aluminum/ metal tumblers. I have been so busy, I haven’t had the time to figure out what to do with them. Not only do I adore the colors , but I LOVE the scratches on the tumblers… it gives them so much character!
After looking up the brand (Bascal, an Italian company), I discovered they were popular in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Out of curiosity, I went to my trusty eBay to see how much they were worth… apparently they range from $4.99 to $50. Ummm…. can someone call up Lara Spencer for me? (That’s a Flea Market Flip reference for those of y’all that aren’t familiar) and can you also put in a good word for me to be on Flea Market Flip?

Here’s my dilemma: what should I do with these tumblers? I definitely don’t want to drink out of them, but would rather display them. So far the only idea I can come up with is to plant some small flowers or herbs in them, BUT the downfall is that there’s no way to drain the water unless I drill holes in the bottom and I have a confession: I have no green thumb. So it might be back to the drawing board for me!
I’m open for any suggestions!

Come on Ride the Train
Is that Quad City DJ song in your head now? Good…
Speaking of trains, I went to Dos Taquitos Xoco last night located in the heart of Glenwood South (you’ll understand my train reference in a bit, be patient). In case you were wondering, the menu is the same as the original Dos Taquitos located on Creedmoor Rd. I did notice the restaurant had referenced Frida Kahlo with several pictures of the artist… not sure what that was about, but hey I’ll go with it!

The highlight for me was the train that delivered chips + salsa to your table. The chips came in a paper bag + the salsa was sealed to prevent it from spilling… it was pretty clever! When we were getting close to leaving, the train started to make it’s way to another table and the bag of chips started to tip over and land on me. Being the dramatic person I am, you would have thought an avalanche was coming for me. In reality it was only 4 or 5 chips that came crashing down on me. I even documented the train accident.
For post dinner drinks we strolled down to Cornerstone Tavern. Not only is the bar in a house, but it also has great outdoor seating. Due to the lovely NC weather that changes everyday, we didn’t sit outside since it was too chilly (buzzkill)!

I must be living under a rock because I had no idea there was a vodka that tastes like Fruit Loops called Loopy by Three Olives. It seriously tastes like Fruit Loops! I was about to ask the bartender if I could get some milk to go with it.
Not sure what to mix your Loopy with? The bartender made my cocktail with Sprite and a splash of cranberry juice… it’s a perfect drink for spring.
Cheers, y’all! xoxo
My Sunday Splurge
Sunday brunch in Carrboro? Sounds like an adventure to me! I don’t venture out to Carrboro often. Let me rephrase that, I never go to Carrboro. When I met up with my cousin for brunch yesterday I figured I better leave extra early because knowing me I’ll get lost. I didn’t get lost, but I didn’t listen to my GPS when it told me to get on I-40… I probably heard my GPS say, “recalculating” 3 times (yes, I failed to not listen to it several times yesterday). I blame it on my lack of caffeine.
Eventually I made it to Acme (on time I might add) and instantly loved the atmosphere. They had a wide variety of bloody Mary’s to choose from, but I opted for a morning mimosa. The brunch menu items ranged from omelets to waffles to burgers. I highly suggest checking out Acme in Carrboro for brunch… be sure to make reservations beforehand so you don’t have to wait around!

On my way back to Raleigh I decided to stop at Anthropologie to use the store credit I collected. I’m going to guess that I was in the store for about an hour just admiring their home items before I decided I better try something on. I ended up buying this AH-MAH-ZING silk multi-patterned shirt by Helen Bullock. I tend to gravitate to unique patterns and lucky me I picked up the last small!
All I have to say is thank goodness for store credit!!
xoxo
